At the Emmys, Jamie Pressly of the show My Name is Earl said she did the Cabbage Soup Detox diet twice when she was asked about how she dropped her pregnancy weight.

Cabbage-soup cleanse aficionado Jamie Pressly looks great but is her preferred method a safe way to drop weight?

The Cabbage Soup Recipe.

  1. In a stock pot spray with a little olive oil.
  2. Heat stock pot and then sautee onions until almost clear.
  3. Add cabbage, canned tomatoes green peppers, celery, broth, vegetable juice and green beans.
  4. Heat to a boil. Add vinegar, herbs, salt and pepper to taste.

Cons of the Cabbage Soup Diet.

  1. This diet is not a long-term diet and will probably not result in long-term weight loss.
  2. On some days the diet is very low in protein and that can be a problem for some people.
  3. Eating the soup several times a day for a week can get boring.
  4. This diet is very low in fat, probably a little too low.

Pros of the Cabbage Soup Diet.

  1. This diet is high in vegetables and fiber. This is very cleansing and detoxifying to the digestive system.
  2. This diet is high in antioxidants.
  3. It is a good alternative to some other cleansing or detox diets out there.
  4. There is plenty to eat on this plan and it is not as boring as a liquid fast or detox.
