It is true that many fruits and vegetables people eat contain some amount of antioxidant qualities, and we see higher vitamin C ratios in citrus fruits. However, today there is something new and wonderful on the market. It is something no one would have ever imagined could be so powerful with antioxidants.

Healthy diets usually consist of more than five fruits and vegetables a day, and this is the daily minimum set out by the food and drug associations. The regular normal human, who does not get enough vitamin C, is the human who will develop deficiencies with his core system.

Vitamin C is nature's way of providing us with a source of antioxidants that help keep the body free from illnesses and diseases.

Pomegranate is one of the world's oldest fruits with the largest amount of antioxidants. Pomegranate can be purchased in many forms; the best is the fruit itself. Many people have reported drinking the juice of pomegranate is also a good way to get all the vitamin C you need in a day.

If you have food allergies, you will want to stay away from the bottled liquid you might find in the grocery and health food stores.

These bottled varieties contain red food dye, usually termed red lake and can cause you to have asthma-type breathing issues. Food dye is not the only allergen or irritant, there is also a large amount of sugar and salt added to help keep the product fresh.

So you see, the best way to get the highest amount of antioxidants is to eat the inside of the pomegranate.

How do You Eat a Pomegranate?

First know that the juice that comes from within the pomegranate is very red and will saturate and stain just about any surface. Once you slice open the pomegranate you will notice the fruit is heavily laden with seeds and a gel type membrane surrounded by a white flesh like fiber. Do not eat this white fiber; it is not good for you. Concentrate rather, on the seeds.

To remove the seeds and gel from the pith, you need to use either an ice cream scoop or a well rounded spoon. Scoop the seeds out into a bowl.

You can separate them from the gel-like membrane using your spoon. It is suggested that the proper way to eat a pomegranate is to eat the seeds as well as the gel itself.

Take a small spoonful in the beginning and crunch away! This is similar to eating red globe grapes - seeds and all. The oil within the seeds is similar to grape seed oil. This oil has a high quality of omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants mixed together.

Other Benefits of Pomegranate

Pomegranate foods, drinks and additives are hitting the market as a new way to cleanse the colon. Because pomegranate is so high in antioxidants, people are hungrily searching the health food section for this product.

In this mad race to get the pomegranate, people are driving up the cost of pomegranate in years to come, and the food and drug association will revert their sayings about the true benefits of the pomegranate. Until then, the average price to purchase fresh fruit will be up wards of $5 and bottled products tend to run high as well.
